Product Criteria
Design requirements
Earthwool glasswool insulation: Roof blankets provide a cost-effective
thermal and acoustic barrier for energy-efficient construction. The
consistent quality, low dust, and clean-cutting resilient fibres make
fabrication easy and installation fast.
Earthwool glasswool insulation:
Roof blankets can be used in timber and metal frame applications in
residential structures. These applications include thermal and acoustic
treatments to walls, ceilings and mid floors.
Knauf Insulation offers Earthwool glasswool insulation in a wide range
of sizes and R-values. Earthwool glasswool insulation can be used for
cavity walls, floors, ceilings, attics, basements and crawlspaces. It is
highly resilient, recovering quickly to full thickness. It also greatly
reduces the transmission of noise in the home.
Installation requirements
Installation of Earthwool glasswool insulation must be completed by
an installer with an understanding of insulation installation, in
accordance with the instructions given within the Technical Literature,
Installation Instructions and BRANZ Appraisal.
Installation of Earthwool glasswool insulation must be in accordance
with the Knauf Insulation’s Technical Literature, Installation
Instructions and BRANZ Appraisal.
NZS 4246 should be used as a guide for installing insulation in residential buildings in New Zealand.
The product must be installed only when the building is enclosed and
when the construction materials have achieved the required maximum
moisture content or less, to ensure the insulation does not become wet.
Maintenance requirements
The building must be maintained weatherproof at all times.
If, during normal routine maintenance it is discovered that moisture
has entered the building envelope, or that dampness has occurred because
of leaking plumbing or some other source, then that source must be
repaired immediately.
Wet or damp insulation must be removed and then replaced with new insulation of an equivalent thermal rating.
Cavities must be clean, dry and free of all contaminants and mould before fitting new insulation.
NZS 4246 Paragraph 3.3 gives guidance on thermal insulation maintenance due to water damage.
Environmental
Earthwool glasswool insulation: Roof blankets are free from CFCs,
HCFCs and any other material with ozone depletion potential in its
manufacture and content and represents no known threat to the
environment.
Earthwool glasswool insulation: Roof
blankets’ manufacture has a low impact on the environment and is
classified as Zero ODP and Zero GWP.
Knauf Insulation mineral wool products with ECOSE Technology benefit
from a revolutionary, bio-based, formaldehyde-free binder technology,
based on rapidly renewable materials, instead of petro-based chemicals.
It reduces embodied energy and delivers superior environmental
sustainability.
The technology has been developed for Knauf Insulation's glass and
rock mineral wool products, enhancing their environmental credentials
without affecting the thermal, acoustic or fire performance. Insulation
products made with ECOSE Technology contain no dye or artificial colours
- the colour is completely natural.
