Product Criteria
Design requirements
Expol Underfloor insulation is a 60mm polystyrene panel with concertina cuts to assist with installation. This product is suitable for ALL timber floor situations, including pole houses. Expol Underfloor Insulation can be used for both existing and new timber floors.
SYSTEM COMPONENTS
WIRE GUARD
EXPOL
Wireguard is a waxed paper strip used to separate exposed electrical cables from EXPOL insulation. EPS in some cases reacts with the plasticiser and degrades the elastic properties of some electric cables over a prolonged period.
FIXINGS
Non corrosive nylon fixings with a stainless steel nail are used to fix EXPOL panels in place, designed to suit both new and existing floor installations.
CONSTRUCTION ADHESIVE
EXPOL supplies a low solvent glue designed to adhere polystyrene to most surfaces. UnderFloor panels can be glued in place using this adhesive as an alternative or in combination with the nylon
fixings.
Installation requirements
INSTALLATIONS INSTRUCTIONS
It is important to achieve a tight friction fit between the edge of the board and the joist; this is achieved by the compression of the pre-cut concertina cuts to the edges of the panels. It is important that all gaps are filled and a tight fit on butt joins be achieved. Small gaps can be sealed with extra material, or a urethane foam. Expol nylon support brackets must be used, in line with the Manufacturers Instructions and Technical Literature, to achieve a 50 year serviceable life.
Expol Insulation must be separated from all sources of heat and naked flame. PVC cables must be prevented from direct contact with any Expol Under Floor Insulation. A physical separation must be provided by running cables around the insulation boards, or by wrapping the cables with Wireguard supplied by Expol Ltd.
Environmental
Expol Underfloor insulation is manufactured from 30% recycled material. All recovered polystyrene can be recycled by Expol.
