Osmo's Anti Slip Decking Oil has been tested in NZ by Opus Laboratories for its anti slip effectiveness. When applied correctly, the results achieved meet the requirements of the NZ Building Code. A copy of the test certificate can be supplied upon request.
Clear slip-resistant top-coat oil (430) for timber decking and outdoor stairs in Bangkirai, Massaranduba, Garapa, Larch, Douglas Fir, Pine and similar - suits ribbed, grooved and smooth boards. A compressed organic non-slip additive reduces slip when dry.
Microporous; contains IPBC film protection against mould, algae and fungus; max 500 g/L VOC. Applied over a pigmented Decking-Oil base coat at ~24 m2/L per coat; recoatable ~12 h. Not a stand-alone finish - the coloured base gives UV protection. The final finish is clear Satin.
Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil (430) is a clear, slip-resistant top-coat oil for exterior timber decking, steps and walkways where enhanced underfoot grip is required - decks, pool surrounds, ramps and stair treads in Bangkirai, Massaranduba, Garapa, Larch, Douglas Fir, Pine and similar woods, on smooth, ribbed or grooved boards. Specify it as the top coat over a pigmented Osmo Decking-Oil base coat, which provides the colour and UV protection; 430 is not a stand-alone finish and must not be used over clear Decking-Oil 007 Teak.
Level surfaces required to Have an SRV classification of not less than 39 from the wet pendulum test method of AS 4586 Appendix A using the Slider 96 rubber (A slip resistance value of 0.4 when tested under AS/NZS 3661.1 may be assumed as equivalent to a SRV of 39.)
Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil (430) is a clear, slip-resistant top-coat oil for exterior timber decking, stairs and walkways, applied over a pigmented Osmo Decking-Oil base coat. Pine decking finished with Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 was slip-resistance tested to AS 4586:2013 (wet pendulum method, Four-S slider) by WSP Opus for Osmo NZ, achieving a mean wet pendulum (BPN) value of 49 and a classification of P4, with a mean coefficient of friction of 0.52. The finished surface is therefore expected to contribute to compliance with NZBC Clause D1 (Access routes), which requires walking surfaces to have adequate slip resistance, including external and wet pedestrian areas. Slip resistance depends on correct application, wear and cleaning. Test certificate available on request.

A compressed organic non-slip additive provides slip resistance (tested to AS 4586:2013 - see the compliance statement), and the coating carries film protection against mould, algae and fungal growth. Design the base colour to suit the timber species and setting. For interior slip-resistant floors and stairs, specify Osmo Polyx-Oil Anti-Slip instead.
Apply to clean, dry exterior timber that has weathered sufficiently (resinous softwoods and dense hardwoods must weather before the first coat) and is free of old coatings, dirt and mill glaze; clean and de-grey beforehand with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel or Decking Cleaner as needed. Apply the system in two stages: first a pigmented Osmo Decking-Oil base coat on raw wood at approx. 35-45 ml/m2, left to dry ~12 hours; then the Anti-Slip Decking Oil top coat at approx. 35-45 ml/m2 (approx. 24 m2/L). Stir 430 thoroughly and regularly during use to keep the non-slip additive evenly suspended, and apply thinly and evenly along the grain by brush or roller. Recoatable after ~12 hours; ventilate and protect from rain until dry. Do not apply over Decking-Oil 007 Teak. Caution: oil-soaked cloths can self-ignite - dry flat or store in a sealed metal container.
Keep decking clean to preserve both appearance and slip resistance: regularly remove leaves, dirt and organic debris and wash with water and Osmo Decking Cleaner, working along the grain; avoid aggressive or film-forming cleaners that could reduce grip. Where the surface has greyed or the finish has worn, clean and de-grey with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel, allow to dry, then re-oil. Osmo Decking-Oil systems refresh without sanding or a primer - normally one maintenance coat of pigmented Decking-Oil followed by a coat of Anti-Slip Decking Oil restores colour, protection and slip resistance. Whenever the surface is recoated, re-establish the Anti-Slip top coat so slip resistance is maintained. Frequency depends on exposure, wear and foot traffic - typically once a year on well-used or weather-exposed decks.
