Although the Moddex Tuffrail Handrail range meets the requirments of D1.3.3, it is not recommended for use in routes used for public access. The Moddex Tuffrail Range is designed specifically under NZS 1657 for places used by operating, inspection, maintenance and servicing personnel. Unlike the Moddex Assistrail range, the Tuffrail design features interruptions on it's top rail, rather than a continuous top-rail. Consequently, it does not align with compliance requirements for use on public access routes. (As per NZBC D1 Access Routes: Handrails shall have a profile which can be readily grasped by an adult hand (32-50mm) and are to have no obstruction to the passage of a hand along the rail).
B1 Structure & D1 Access Routes: Moddex Tuffrail Systems are designed for barrier loading class B/E (Service & Maintenance) per AS/NZS 1170.1. Tested in accordance with loadings AS/NZS 1170.1:2002 Table 3.3 and AS 1657:2013 CL6.1. Stringent vibration endurance and independent maritime testing confirm suitability in harsh environments. Refer to Moddex Tuffrail PS1.
B2 Durability: Galvanized to AS 4792 and AS/NZS 4680:2006, providing up to 15 years durability across all Exposure Zones. Available in Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel, Aluminium, or 316 Stainless Steel for high corrosion resistance against chemical fumes and sea spray. Durability relies on installation and maintenance per Moddex specifications. Refer to Moddex Care and Maintenance Manual.
Live Loads: Standard loading of 0.35 kN/m line load and 0.6 kN concentrated load (Barrier Class B/E per AS/NZS 1170.1). For higher load requirements, use the Conectabal product line.
Scope & Usage: Designed per NZS 1657 for areas used by operating, inspection, maintenance, and servicing personnel.
Public Access Restriction: Not recommended for public access routes. Tuffrail features top-rail interruptions that do not comply with NZBC D1 requirements for continuous, unobstructed handrails.
Moddex Tuffrail Systems must be installed in accordance with the Moddex Installation Guide.
Durability relies on installing and maintaining the Tuffrail Handrail per Moddex specifications. Refer to the Moddex Care and Maintenance Manual for full guidelines.
