Product Description
Earthwool® Glasswool ceiling insulation is a high-performance solution designed to support compliance with building code and project design requirements in New Zealand. Manufactured with a patented plant-based binder, it contains no added formaldehyde, petro-based chemicals or artificial colours. Its natural brown appearance reflects this more sustainable formulation, while the soft-touch finish also supports easier handling and installation on site.
Scope of use
Supply and install the selected Earthwool® Glasswool insulation to ceilings, roofs and other areas as identified on the drawings, complete with accessories.
All aspects of this work shall be in complete in accordance with Knauf Insulation product manuals and installation guides, (check www.knauf.com/en-NZ, or call 0800 562 834 for the latest editions), Earthwool® Glasswool insulation BRANZ Appraisal, other relevant product manufacturers' recommendations, and as shown on the drawings.
No substitutions are permitted for Earthwool® Glasswool insulation.

The product will, if employed in accordance with the supplier's installation and maintenance requirements, assist with meeting the following provisions of the building code:

Earthwool Glasswool insulation is an Acceptable Solution in terms of New Zealand Building Code Compliance.
Earthwool Glasswool insulation thermal resistance (R-value) is declared in accordance with the requirements of AS/NZS 4859.1 which is an acceptable method.

Design requirements
Earthwool® Glasswool Ceiling segments are designed to deliver reliable thermal and acoustic performance for energy-efficient residential and commercial buildings. Suitable for use in both timber and metal-framed ceiling applications, they provide a cost-effective insulation solution for projects requiring compliance with thermal and acoustic design objectives.Manufactured for consistent quality and ease of installation, the batts are low dust, clean cutting and highly resilient, allowing them to recover quickly to full thickness. Earthwool® Glasswool Ceiling segments also incorporate DriTherm® Technology, which provides moisture repellence to support long-term durability and in-service performance.
Installation requirements
Installation of Earthwool Glasswool insulation must be completed by an installer with an understanding of insulation installation, in accordance with the instructions given within the Technical Literature, Installation Instructions and BRANZ Appraisal.
Installation of Earthwool Glasswool insulation must be in accordance with the Knauf Insulation’s Technical Literature, Installation Instructions and BRANZ Appraisal.
NZS 4246 should be used as a guide for installing insulation in residential buildings in New Zealand.
The product must be installed only when the building is enclosed and when the construction materials have achieved the required maximum moisture content or less, to ensure the insulation does not become wet.
Maintenance requirements
The building must be maintained weatherproof at all times.
If, during normal routine maintenance it is discovered that moisture has entered the building envelope, or that dampness has occurred because of leaking plumbing or some other source, then that source must be repaired immediately.
Wet or damp insulation must be removed and then replaced with new insulation of an equivalent thermal rating.
Cavities must be clean, dry and free of all contaminants and mould before fitting new insulation.
NZS 4246 Paragraph 3.3 gives guidance on thermal insulation maintenance due to water damage.
Warrantees
Knauf Insulation Pty Ltd (ACN 129 827 336) and Knauf Insulation Ltd (Registered NZ Company No. 35 271 92) - (Knauf) - warrant that Earthwool® Glasswool insulation products (Product) are manufactured in accordance with AS/NZS-4859.1 and are fit for the purpose of insulating ceilings, external timber frame walls, underfloors and internal acoustic partitions, if tested in accordance with the methodology referred to in AS/NZS-4859.1, if properly installed in accordance with the installation instructions and if maintained according to relevant Standards including AS-3999/NZS-4246.

Environmental
Earthwool® Glasswool products are manufactured using recycled glass and have GreenRate™ Level A certification. Certification makes it easy for designers and building owners to gain rewards under Green Star and Homestar credits system. Earthwool® Glasswool has been certified Declare Red List Free label meaning that none of the raw materials used in its manufacture are on the International Living Futures Institute red list. Earthwool® Glasswool is also free from CFCs, HCFCs and any other material with known ozone depletion potential and represents no known threat to the environment. Knauf Insulation's unique binder technology - ECOSE® Technology - is plant-based and is based on rapidly renewable materials, instead of petro-based chemicals. ECOSE® Technology results in less embodied carbon than traditional binders used in alternative glasswool products.
