Product Description
AccuThermax™ Fibreglass PPS is a preformed glasswool pipe insulation section, manufactured in New Zealand by Accumen Shapes Ltd from non-combustible inorganic glass fibres bonded with a thermosetting resin. Sections are supplied plain or foil-faced, with a lengthwise slit for fitting over installed pipework, and serve HVAC, hot and chilled water, steam and industrial process services in commercial and industrial buildings.
Fire performance is independently established: CSIRO Certificates of Assessment No. 1851 (foil-faced) and No. 1852 (plain) classify the product Group 1-S to ISO 5660-1/-2 at 50 kW/m2 under NZBC C/VM2 Appendix A, with the glasswool substrate deemed non-combustible to AS/NZS 1530.1:1994 (CSIRO FNC10853/FNC10854, cited in the Certificates). Declared early fire hazard indices to AS 1530.3 are 0/0/0/0-1. Service range is 2 to +450 deg C. Thermal conductivity is declared at 0.033 W/mK at 15 deg C mean to AS/NZS 4859.1 (ASTM C518 method); the full temperature curve and a declared R-value schedule by bore and wall thickness are published in the TDS and R-Value sheet.
Chloride content below 2 ug/g (ppm) to ASTM C871 / BS 2972 (test reference SGS G706/95) supports use on stainless steel pipework, subject to service conditions, moisture exposure and the complete insulation system design.
Manufactured and stocked in Auckland - the only locally manufactured glasswool pipe section - in sizes to ASTM C585 for steel (BS 3600) and copper (NZS 3501) pipework; standard length 1000 mm, wall thicknesses 19-63 mm standard, greater on request. TDS, R-value schedule, SDS and BPIR are available at accumen.co.nz; test reports and Certificates of Assessment are available to BCAs and specifiers on request, complete and unaltered.
Scope of use
AccuThermax™ Fibreglass PPS is intended for thermal insulation of pipework in building services, HVAC, industrial process and commercial plant applications: chilled water, hot water, heating, steam, refrigeration and process lines operating between 2°C and +450°C. It suits mild steel, carbon steel and stainless steel pipework, copper pipework to NZS 3501 and steel pipework to BS 3600, in new-build and retrofit installations.
Plain sections suit concealed and jacketed services; foil-faced sections provide a vapour-check facing for chilled and dual-temperature duties and a Group 1-S finished surface where insulation is exposed within a building. Wall thickness is selected against the declared R-value schedule and the project thermal design.
Limitations: AccuThermax™ Fibreglass PPS is not a structural product and provides no load-bearing function. It is not a fire-rated duct protection or passive fire-stopping system, and no fire resistance rating (FRR) is claimed. Sections must be kept dry in storage, installation and service; outdoors they must be clad in a weathertight jacket. On stainless steel pipework where moisture is likely, first wrap the pipe with aluminium foil as a sacrificial layer. Maximum recommended thickness at 450°C is 100 mm; raise plant temperature in stages of approximately 50°C per hour at commissioning. Install in accordance with Accumen's published installation guidance.

B2: inert glasswool retains its performance for the life of the services system where kept dry and maintained; assessed against B2.3.1(b) for concealed services and B2.3.1(c) for accessible elements (TDS, installation and maintenance guidance). C3.4(a): Group 1-S internal surface finish in both plain and foil-faced form, established by CSIRO Certificates of Assessment 1851/1852 to ISO 5660-1/-2 under C/VM2 Appendix A; no FRR is claimed and the product is not a fire-rated duct or penetration system. Use in Service History
Glasswool preformed pipe insulation has more than 60 years of continuous international service across HVAC, marine and industrial pipework — the in-service history basis recognised by B2/AS1 for established materials. This product line carries its own independent test programme: cone calorimeter testing at CSIRO on 25 July 2013 with Certificates of Assessment 1851 and 1852 issued 17/18 September 2013 (Group 1-S, plain and foil-faced), substrate non-combustibility to AS/NZS 1530.1:1994 (CSIRO FNC10853/FNC10854), and chloride verification to ASTM C871 / BS 2972 (SGS reference G706/95). Thermal values are declared to AS/NZS 4859.1. AccuThermax™ Fibreglass PPS is manufactured and stocked in Auckland, with every production batch identified by batch number and production date and traceable through Accumen's shipment and order records.
Product Criteria
Design requirements
Single 80 kg/m³ density grade covers the full 2–450°C service range. Select wall thickness against the declared R-value schedule and the project thermal design; thickness recommendations by service temperature and pipe diameter are available from Accumen Technical Services. Choose plain sections for concealed and jacketed services; choose foil-faced sections where a vapour-check facing is required for chilled or dual-temperature duties, or where a Group 1-S finished surface will remain exposed. For stainless steel pipework, the low verified chloride content (<2 µg/g to ASTM C871 / BS 2972) supports the application — where moisture is likely, first wrap the pipe with aluminium foil as a sacrificial layer, and address the complete system design. Exclusions: not structural; no FRR claimed; maximum recommended thickness at 450°C is 100 mm. Accumen Technical Services can review project-specific selections on request.
Installation requirements
Fit sections closed over the pipe with joints butted tight. Indoors, cover with foil laminate or clad with zinc-anneal or stainless jackets; protect sections from moisture and water at all times. Outdoors, clad in a weathertight jacket (zinc anneal, aluminium, stainless sheeting or mastic coatings) capable of preventing rain and water penetration. On stainless steel pipework where moisture is likely to be present, first wrap the pipe with aluminium foil to act as a sacrificial layer. At plant commissioning, reach maximum operating temperature in stages of approximately 50°C per hour; binder volatilisation above 180°C is expected on first heat-up — ventilate the area — and does not affect thermal performance. Cutting and handling generate fibrous dust: use approved eye protection, dust mask and gloves, and refer to the Safety Data Sheet. Store off the ground, dry and protected from weather. Maintenance requirements
AccuThermax™ Fibreglass PPS is an inert mineral insulation with no moving parts and no in-service consumables; maintenance centres on keeping it dry and mechanically protected. Inspect insulation, jacketing and vapour protection annually and after any adjacent building or services work, checking for mechanical damage, open joints and water ingress; repair promptly. Maintain the weathertightness of outdoor jacketing and reseal joints as required. Replace water-damaged or saturated sections — wet glasswool must not be left in service. The insulation surface is not trafficable and must not be stood on or used to support loads. Where selected, installed, kept dry and maintained in accordance with the BPIR and Accumen's published documentation, the product is expected to remain serviceable for the life of the building-services system it insulates, supporting assessment against B2.3.1.
Warrantees
Accumen Shapes Ltd provides a product warranty in respect of the supply only (not installation) of AccuThermax™ Fibreglass PPS, ex-factory. The warranty is limited to the quality of the goods supplied and operates alongside the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Sale of Goods Act where applicable; nothing in the warranty limits statutory rights. Warranty conditions: the product must be selected, installed, kept dry and maintained in accordance with Accumen's published documentation (BPIR, TDS, installation and maintenance guidance). Exclusions: installation workmanship, damage occurring after delivery, water damage in storage or service, and use outside the published scope of use. Every unit is batch-identified with a production date, and batch-to-shipment records held by Accumen support any warranty claim. Environmental
AccuThermax™ Fibreglass PPS is an inorganic glass-fibre insulation bonded with a cured thermosetting resin. The material is inert and insoluble, contains no asbestos, and the glasswool substrate is deemed non-combustible to AS/NZS 1530.1:1994 (CSIRO FNC10853/FNC10854, cited in Certificates of Assessment 1851/1852). The product is not classified as hazardous under HSNO, and its fibres are classified IARC Group 3 (not classifiable as to carcinogenicity to humans). As a fibrous insulation it contains no blowing agents and has zero ozone depletion potential. In service, the product reduces energy losses from heated and cooled pipework for the life of the system, typically repaying its manufacturing energy many times over. Offcuts and end-of-life material may be disposed of as inert construction waste in accordance with the Safety Data Sheet (Section 13) and local authority requirements; packaging should be recycled where facilities exist.
