Scope of Use
GMSSS10 Guidemaster Tactile Ground Surface Indicator (TGSI)- A Heavy Duty Solid Stainless Steel warning / hazard tactile stud, recommended for indoors and outdoors, commercial carparks, footpaths, shopping centres, hospitals, schools – any public spaces requiring accessibility treatment.
Warn the vision impaired of such warnings as:
- Life threatening hazards where serious falls may occur, such as at railway platforms, wharves, vehicular driveways and exits from car parks, etc, which intersect access paths
- To indicate that a point of importance has been reached such as the location of a bus sign or tram stop or the location of a change of direction on a pedestrian crossing island or as wayfinding to signify the location of a change of direction while traveling
- At the top and bottom of stairways and ramps warning of a change in level.
- At pedestrian crossings to indicate the path of travel
New Zealand Building Code (NZBC)
The product will, if employed in accordance with the supplier's installation and maintenance requirements, assist with meeting the following provisions of the building code:
- Clause D1 Access routes: Performance D1.3.1, D1.3.1(a), D1.3.1(b), D1.3.1(c), D1.3.2, D1.3.2(a), D1.3.2(b), D1.3.3, D1.3.3(c), D1.3.3(d)
GMSSS12 Tactile Indicator installation shall conform to Clause D1 Access Routes, aligning with the NZTA RTS14—Land Transport New Zealand—Guidelines for facilities for the blind and vision-impaired, AS/NZS 1428.4.1:2009—Design for access and mobility, Part 4, NZS4121:2001—Design for access and mobility - building and associated facilities, AS/NZS4586:2004 – Slip resistance classification of new pedestrian surface materials, Land Transport’s Pedestrian Planning and Design Guide, and The Royal N.Z. Foundation for the Blind Design Guide Recommendations/Specifications, ensuring compliance with the relevant accessibility and safety standards.

Design requirements
Designed to be very durable with a visible 316 marine grade polished stainless steel. Engineered for accessibility to warn and guide the visually impaired to approaching hazards.
Installation requirements
Drill and Adhesive Fix or Drill and Friction Fit in accordance to New Zealand Standards. Complete installation requirements will be provided upon request of Freedom Strategies clients.
Maintenance requirements
Regular Cleaning:
- Remove dirt, debris, leaves, and other foreign materials from the tactile indicators regularly using a broom, brush, or a leaf blower.
- Periodically wash the surface with water and a mild detergent to remove stains and accumulated grime.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals, such as chlorine, bleach, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the stainless steel.
Regular Maintenance:
- Establish a regular maintenance schedule for stainless steel tactile indicators, depending on the level of foot traffic and environmental conditions in the area. Heavily used areas may require more frequent inspections and maintenance.
- Inspect the tactile indicators regularly for signs of wear and tear, such as loose or damaged inserts, cracks, or corrosion.
- Repair or replace any damaged tactile indicators immediately.
