Scope of Use
EFAFLEX high-speed spiral doors are designed for industrial applications, including cold storage, deep-freeze environments (down to -30°C), and frost-free facilities. They are suitable for interior and exterior use where rapid cycling, energy efficiency, and thermal control are critical.These doors must be installed on structurally sound surfaces with temperature ranges adhered to (-30°C to +30°C for TK-100; +2°C to 0°C for ISO/60 models). Heated seals and thermally broken frames are required for use in cold storage to prevent condensation. Installation must follow DIN EN 12604 and 13241-1 standards.Restrictions: Not suitable for use in environments exceeding specified temperature ranges or without proper maintenance. Ensure compatibility with the building’s energy performance requirements to comply with NZBC H1 and G5.
New Zealand Building Code (NZBC)
The product will, if employed in accordance with the supplier's installation and maintenance requirements, assist with meeting the following provisions of the building code:
- Clause G5 Interior environment: Performance G5.3.1
- Heated seals and frames prevent condensation at temperature ranges down to -30°C for TK-100 and between +2°C to 0°C for ISO/60 models, ensuring compliance with interior environmental control under G5.3.1.
- Clause H1 Energy efficiency : Performance H1.3.1(a), H1.3.1(b), H1.3.3(c), H1.3.3(d), H1.3.3(e), H1.3.4(a), H1.3.4(b), H1.3.4(c)
- Thermal insulation is verified to meet DIN EN 12428, achieving U-values of up to 0.74 W/m²K (TK-100), 0.80 W/m²K (S-ISO/60), and 0.93 W/m²K (L-ISO/60).
- Thermally broken frames and insulated EFA-THERM® laths (100 mm for TK-100, 60 mm for ISO/60 models) provide high resistance to heat transfer, aligning with H1.3.1(a) for thermal resistance and H1.3.3(c) for airtightness.
- Advanced sealing mechanisms, including double seals, heated seals, and optional frame heating, reduce energy loss, meeting H1.3.1(b) to limit uncontrollable airflow.
- Efficient motorized operation and rapid cycling speeds (up to 2.5 m/s) minimize the time doors are open, reducing thermal exchange.

The product complies with the NZBC requirements set out in the following clauses: H1 – Energy Efficiency and G5 – Interior Environment. It adheres to the performance requirements outlined in these clauses through compliance with the Acceptable Solutions and Verification Methods specified in the relevant compliance documents.
For H1, the product ensures adequate thermal resistance (H1.3.1(a)) and airtightness (H1.3.3(c)) through high-performance insulation materials and advanced sealing systems, minimising heat transfer and energy loss. Testing has been conducted for insulation performance and ISO 12567 for thermal performance of doors.
For G5, the product maintains the required interior environment by preventing condensation and ensuring consistent temperature control in compliance with ISO 14644-1 for air cleanliness and hygiene requirements in controlled environments.
These features are verified through testing and certification by accredited laboratories, ensuring the product meets or exceeds the NZBC standards, supporting its suitability for cold storage and refrigeration applications.

Installation must comply with NZBC H1 – Energy Efficiency and G5 – Interior Environment, with thermally broken frames and heated seals to prevent condensation.Available configurations include various lath thicknesses (60–100 mm), spiral designs (round or oval), and optional heated components for extreme conditions. Accessories include safety light grids (EFA-TLG®), stainless steel finishes, and acrylic glass vision panels. Fixings should follow DIN EN 12604 standards to ensure structural integrity and safety.
Installation requirements
EFAFLEX high-speed spiral doors must be installed by trained professionals to ensure compliance with NZBC requirements. The doors require a structurally sound mounting surface and precise alignment of thermally broken frames. Electrical connections must meet NZ electrical standards (e.g., 400V/50Hz for TK-100 and 230V/50Hz for ISO/60 models). Heated seals and frames must be correctly positioned to prevent condensation in cold environments.Doors must be mounted on either the warm or cold side per operational requirements, with temperature ranges adhered to (-30°C to +30°C for TK-100). Fixings and support structures must follow DIN EN 12604 and 13241-1 standards, ensuring safe operation. Regular calibration of proximity sensors and light grids (EFA-TLG®) is required for safety compliance.
Maintenance requirements
Preventative maintenance is suggested in accordance with Efaflex’s maintenance schedules to ensure durability and optimal performance. Recommended tasks include regular visual inspections, cleaning, and checks on wear-sensitive parts like seals and sensors. Adjustments to door tension and recalibration of automation features help prevent issues in high-use environments. Key components, such as springs, electrical connections, and safety edges, should be inspected periodically, with replacements as necessary to maintain longevity and functionality.
