These doors are suitable for internal and external applications in areas requiring strict safety and operational reliability.
The EX series ensures secure access and environmental separation in hazardous zones, including Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21, and Zone 22, offering robust performance under challenging conditions. With high-speed operation, they minimize downtime while maintaining containment of hazardous substances.
These doors are engineered to integrate with building automation and safety systems, supporting controlled environments and compliance with hazardous area regulations. They are adaptable for use in high-traffic areas, enabling safe and efficient movement of personnel and materials. Customizable in size and finish, the EX series can be tailored to specific site requirements.
New Zealand Building Code (NZBC)
The product will, if employed in accordance with the supplier's installation and maintenance requirements, assist with meeting the following provisions of the building code:
- Clause F3 Hazardous substances and processes: Performance F3.3(d)
- ATEX Certification: These doors are designed and manufactured in accordance with the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU, which sets requirements for equipment used in explosive atmospheres.
- Robust Construction: Built with durable materials, EFAFLEX ATEX doors maintain structural integrity under explosive conditions, effectively containing hazardous substances and preventing their spread.
- Ignition Source Prevention: The doors incorporate mechanical and electrical precautions to eliminate potential ignition sources, such as anti-static components and flameproof motors, reducing the risk of explosions.
- Zone Classification Compliance: Suitable for use in various hazardous zones, including Zones 1 and 2 for gases, and Zones 21 and 22 for dust, these doors align with the classifications outlined in standards like AS/NZS 60079.10.1:2022.
- Integrated Safety Features: Equipped with safety mechanisms such as fail-safe locking systems and emergency manual operation options.
Notes
Other provisions of the building code met provided in specific PTS sections for the doors.
Evidence
The product meets the requirements set out in the following documents, or relevant parts of cited standards within the documents:
The EFAFLEX explosion protection doors meet the requirements of internationally recognized standards for hazardous environments. Designed for use in areas with explosive atmospheres, they comply with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and the AS/NZS 60079 series, specifically AS/NZS 60079.0:2019 (general requirements) and AS/NZS 60079.10.1:2022(classification of explosive atmospheres). These doors are tested for mechanical integrity, sealing, and resistance to ignition sources, ensuring compliance with EN 13241+A2 for industrial doors.
The robust construction and anti-static components align with the safety requirements for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas, preventing sparks and mitigating ignition risks. Integrated safety features, such as fail-safe mechanisms and flameproof motors, support compliance with the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017. Designed for demanding environments, EFAFLEX explosion protection doors ensure safety and operational efficiency while meeting strict regulatory and performance standards.

Design requirements
The EFAFLEX EX series is engineered for use in hazardous environments where explosive atmospheres are present, offering compliance with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU. These high-speed doors are suitable for industries such as petrochemical, energy, and chemical processing, ensuring safety and efficiency in classified zones.
Key considerations for design and specification:
- Applications: Designed for Zones 1, 2, 21, and 22, ensuring containment and minimizing explosion risks.
- Safety Compliance: Specify anti-static finishes, flameproof motors, and explosion-proof components to meet hazardous area requirements.
- Performance: Robust construction ensures resistance to pressure changes and operational reliability under extreme conditions.
- Integration: Ensure compatibility with interlocks, ventilation, and safety systems for seamless operation.
- Environmental Factors: Consider exposure to temperature, humidity, and dust when selecting models for specific applications.
Installation requirements
Efaflex EX Series doors should be installed by qualified technicians experienced in high-speed industrial doors. Installation involves securely mounting the frame, connecting and testing electrical components, and calibrating sensors. Adherence to manufacturer instructions, correct tool usage, and precise alignment are essential to prevent operational issues. Installation should take place in stable temperature and humidity conditions to avoid misalignment or material expansion. Ensuring proper calibration of sensors and components minimizes performance issues and maintains safety in temperature-sensitive applications.
Maintenance requirements
Preventative maintenance is suggested in accordance with Efaflex’s maintenance schedules to ensure durability and optimal performance. Recommended tasks include regular visual inspections, cleaning, and checks on wear-sensitive parts like seals and sensors. Adjustments to door tension and recalibration of automation features help prevent issues in high-use environments. Key components, such as springs, electrical connections, and safety edges, should be inspected periodically, with replacements as necessary to maintain longevity and functionality. Efaflex can recommend a qualified contractor to perform these tasks and keep detailed records to support NZBC Clause B2 compliance and ensure reliable door operation.
