Compliance Statement
Scope of Use
Specify FireZone Vanguard SP to achieve a Group 1-S, Group 1, Group 2-S, Group 2 or Group 3 on timber substrates (as defined by NZBC CVM2) with a minimum thickness of 9mm and minimum density of 338kg/m3. This covers almost all typically specified timber species.
Appropriate for use in internal dry, internal wet and semi-external applications.
Leaves either a natural timber finish or stained finish.
New Zealand Building Code (NZBC)
The product will, if employed in accordance with the supplier's installation and maintenance requirements, assist with meeting the following provisions of the building code:
- Clause C3 Fire affecting areas beyond the fire source: Performance C3.4(a)
FireZone Vanguard SP has been tested to EN13501-1:2018 in Europe achieving a B-d0-s1 classification on timber substrates with a minimum density of ≥338 kg/m3 and minimum thickness of ≥9mm.
According to the NZBC C/AS2 Table C1.1 – a B-d0-s1 is the equivalent of a Group 1-S.
According to C/VM2 A1.6 – a surface applied products performance is deemed applicable on timber with the same or great thickness and density.
C/VM2 Table A2 defines timber substrate as: Timber, Standard grade plywood, hardboard,
fibre/particleboard
Therefore FireZone Vanguard SP meets a Group 1-S fire rating on timber substrates with a minimum density of ≥338 kg/m3 and minimum thickness of ≥9mm.
Notes
The FireZone Vanguard SP meets the Group 1-S, Group 1, Group 2-S, Group 2 and Group 3 interior surface lining requires as required by C3.4(a). Outlined in NZBC C/AS2 Clause 4.17.
Timber substrates must be for internal use only, with a minimum density of ≥338 kg/m3 and minimum thickness of ≥9mm.
Timber substrates are defined in NZBC CVM2 Verification Method - Clause A1.6 Table A2 - Timber, Standard grade plywood, hardboard, fibre/particleboard.
Evidence
The product meets the requirements set out in the following documents, or relevant parts of cited standards within the documents:
EN13501-1:2018 - Fire classification of construction products and building elements
EN16755:2017: Durability of reaction to fire performance - Classes of fire-retardant treated wood products in interior and exterior end use applications
NZBC C/AS2 Acceptable Solution for Buildings other than Risk Group SH:
- Clause 4.17 Interior surface finishes, floor coverings and suspended flexible fabrics
- Table C1.1 Alternative test or classification standards for Group Numbers
NZBC CVM2 Verification Method: Framework for Fire Safety Design:
- Clause A1.6 Selecting a substrate for testing materials or coatings usually applied to a substrate,
- Table A2 Selection of substrate
