Scope of Use
• In all locations subject to specific engineering design or selected from the Megabeam engineered
span tables
• Fixing materials are to be in accordance with NZS 3604:2011, section 4.0
• In all buildings where the relevant part of the building complies with the NZBC, or in existing
buildings, where the designer/engineer is satisfied that the existing building is suitable or the
intended purpose
• Fabricated connections to be in accordance with AS/NZS 1170.2:201
• This product is not suited to exterior unprotected situations where exposed to weather but may be
used in any protected situation
• Where specific fire performance is required, the beams must be specified in conjunction with a Fire
Engineer
• The specification and installation of Megabeam laminated beams must be carried out by (or
supervised by) a Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) with a relevant license class and with access to
all relevant technical documentation.
• The beams must be stored, handled, maintained and installed in accordance with all Megabeam
requirements.
New Zealand Building Code (NZBC)
The product will, if employed in accordance with the supplier's installation and maintenance requirements, assist with meeting the following provisions of the building code:

Megabeam is third party certified by the GLTAA (Glue Laminated Timber Association of Australia) to the
relevant AS/NZ standards.

Installation requirements
The specification and installation of Megabeam laminated beams must be carried out by (or
supervised by) a Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) with a relevant license class and with access to
all relevant technical documentation.
Maintenance requirements
• The beams must be stored, handled, maintained and installed in accordance with all Megabeam
requirements.
• Glulam products should not be dropped, jarred, or dragged. It's important to take care to prevent
surface damage. When loading, unloading, or transporting, protection should be used against strops,
chains, or wire ropes. Webbing slings are recommended to avoid damaging the members, and the
product should be lifted on its edge to align it with its final position
• Where applicable, use spreaders on long members and position slings to ensure a well-balanced load
and support. Guy lines should be used to control the product during movement. During transport and
erection, care should be taken not to over-stress Laminated products.
