Compliance Statement
Scope of Use
Stertil Dock Shelters are designed for industrial and commercial facilities, providing a reliable solution for loading bay protection. They create a tight seal around docked vehicles, shielding the loading area from external elements, temperature fluctuations, airborne pollutants, and pests. Suitable for various building types, including warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing facilities, the shelters enhance energy efficiency by minimizing air leakage, aiding in climate control. Available in multiple models—cushion, curtain, and inflatable—Stertil Dock Shelters accommodate diverse vehicle sizes and fleet needs. Customizable with RAL colors, they also offer branding options, supporting both functional and aesthetic requirements in high-traffic loading environments.
New Zealand Building Code (NZBC)
The product will, if employed in accordance with the supplier's installation and maintenance requirements, assist with meeting the following provisions of the building code:
- Clause F4 Safety from falling: Performance F4.3.1, F4.3.4(a)
The design of Stertil Dock Shelters meets compliance for New Zealand Building Code Clause F4 (Safety from Falling) by following the F4/AS1 Acceptable Solution pathway. The installation of a shelter creates a barrier at exposed edges of loading docks, adhering to minimum height and load specifications as set out in F4/AS1. High-visibility markings enhance awareness of hazardous areas, further supporting safe navigation around the loading bay. These features align with F4/AS1 requirements, ensuring the shelter design meets the prescribed safety standards for preventing falls.
See: Stertil | Dock Shelters - Clause H1 Energy efficiency : Performance H1.3.1(b)
Compliance with NZBC Clause H1 (Energy Efficiency) for buildings over 300 m² will follow the Verification Method H1/VM2. This pathway requires the designer to undertake energy modeling to confirm that the installation of Stertil Dock Shelters align with overall energy performance requirements, supporting the building’s compliance with the standards set in H1/VM2 for large industrial facilities.

Evidence
The product meets the requirements set out in the following documents, or relevant parts of cited standards within the documents:
Stertil Dock Shelters enhance loading bay safety by incorporating guardrails and barriers that prevent falls at exposed edges, complying with F4.3.1 for edge protection. These shelters feature thermally insulating materials and tight seals that reduce heat transfer and prevent air leakage, meeting H1.3.2E for thermal resistance and H1.3.4 for air tightness. These features position Stertil Dock Shelters as compliant with NZBC requirements for both safety and energy efficiency in loading bay operations.
Design requirements
- To Ensure a tight seal around docked vehicles to prevent air leakage and maintain climate control. Specify correct sizing in-line with Stertil guidelines.
Installation requirements
- PENSA Certified professionals trained in Stertil installations should be engaged to ensure proper setup.
Maintenance requirements
PENSA offers comprehensive preventative maintenance agreements with each shelter sale to ensure compliance with NZBC Clause B2 (Durability) and long-term performance. These agreements include quarterly inspections of seals and insulation to maintain airtightness, and checks on fasteners, and mounts for corrosion or loosening to ensure stability. Panels are cleaned and inspected regularly to uphold safety and appearance, with replacements made as needed. All maintenance activities are documented, providing a clear record of compliance and durability over time.
