Scope of use

The Glass Vice® Commercial Glass balustrade systems have been independently tested in NZ.C1/C2 Areas with tables or fixed seating - Areas with fixed seating adjacent to a balustrade, restaurants, bars etc.C3 – Areas without obstacles for moving people and not susceptible to overcrowding – Stairs, landings external balconies, edges of roofs, etc.C5 - Areas susceptible to overcrowding – Theatres, cinemas, grandstands, discotheques, bars, auditoria, shopping malls (see also D), assembly areas, studios, etc.D - Retail areas – All retail areas including public areas of banks / building societies, (see C5 for areas where overcrowding may occur)

The product will, if employed in accordance with the supplier's installation and maintenance requirements, assist with meeting the following provisions of the building code:

• Clause B1 Structure: Performance B1.3.4, B1.3.4(a), B1.3.4(b)
• Clause B2 Durability: Performance B2.3.1(b), B2.3.2, B2.3.2(b)
• Clause F2 Hazardous building materials: Performance F2.3.3, F2.3.3(a), F2.3.3(b), F2.3.3(c)

Product Criteria

Design requirements

A barrier installed inside a dwelling needs to be designed to withstand a horizontal load of .35kn/m whereas a barrier in a heavily frequented space such as a shopping center requires 3.0kn/m.   Producer statements provided with the barrier design need to cover B1 (structure ) and B2 (durability) F2 (Hazardous material) and F4  (safety from falling) it is also important to ensure the scope of design is well  described  to verify its use and location.

Installation requirements

installation guides must be followed with the appropriate fastenings and products used to ensure strength and stability.

Maintenance requirements

The Glass vice Balustrade system meets Building Code requirements B1 and B2 for glass components only F2/AS1 clause 1.1 and F4/AS1 Clauses 1.1 and 1.2
